Tea Party Fav Bachmann Makes Iowa Grassroots Misstep

As a Tea Party activist and admittedy being wildy crazy about fiery conservative Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, I regret that my first post with her very easy on the eyes photo is one of tough love.  I am after all an Iowa Republican first and near and dear to my heart is the First in the Nation Iowa Caucus.  So it was with great dismay that I learned of Politico.com’s story on her unintentional misstep already in Iowa:

“Michele Bachmann has snagged a top Iowa staffer from Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign.  Wes Enos, who served as Huckabee’s Iowa political director, will be a MichelePAC consultant as the Minnesota congresswoman gears up for a potential run for the White House in 2012.” http://tinyurl.com/3gbfqah

Wes Enos is one of the good guys in Iowa politics, no doubt about it.  So why is hiring a top staffer of the underfunded yet very successful 2008 Huckabee team in the Iowa caucus a misstep?  He’s a member of the Republican Party of Iowa’s state central committee.  That’s right, oops.  Short of skipping the state all together (McCain), there is nothing a presidential candidate can do to enrage the likely voters in the Iowa caucus than putting state Republican party officials on the payroll.  Grassroots activists like to think that the Iowa GOP is staying out of primaries and ESPECIALLY the Iowa caucus so that their respective favorite candidate will have a fair chance.  In addition, the grassroots are keenly aware that the eyes of the national political media are upon us and would like nothing more than to appease the 48 states who want to take away our first in the nation status.  Candidates openly paying state party officials is a pretty good way to call the integrity of the process into question.  Chairman Matt Strawn won’t be taking sides in the caucus nor should he.  Strawn has done so much in a relatively short period of time to resurrect our party and is cultivating a new generation of rising republican political stars.  It would be a shame to see that effort undermined.

Enos worked for Bob Vander Plaats’ thrice failed gubernatorial campaign last year while on the Iowa GOP state central committee and there are still scars from the primary showing, but at least it was confined to inside the state.  Now we are talking national candidates and putting our beloved first in the nation caucus in jeopardy.  You can’t serve two masters.  It’s that simple.

Please Wes, be the good guy that you are and resign from the state central committee for that sake of protecting the integrity of the Iowa Caucus.  All eyes are on you.

I too love Michele Bachmann and was really surprised that nobody told her how this would piss off the very same Tea Party activists like me who she will need on a cold caucus night. I do not plan to hold this against her, the handlers should have prevented this blunder.
